St. Andrew’s has been serving the people of Germiston since 1890. We have received a rich heritage from the people

who have gone before us, as well as receiving our Lord Jesus’ commission to be witnesses of his love to his people today.

We are a Presbyterian church, which means that we believe that Christ's church should be governed by elders all of equal rank.

The Presbyterian tradition originated in Scotland around the time of the Great Reformation begun by Martin Luther

in the 16th Century, and came to this country through Scottish Missionaries around the turn of the 19th Century.

The Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa (UPCSA), of which we are a constituted congregation, is a relatively

new denomination in Southern Africa. Up until 1999 - the Reformed Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa (RPCSA)

and the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa (PCSA) were separate denominations.

On the 26th of September 1999 - after many years of negotiation - the two denominations united to form the UPCSA.

The denomination exists not only in South Africa, but also in Zimbabwe and Zambia. In the denomination there are approximately

370 congregations, organised into 19 Presbyteries with a total membership of about 133,000 - 150,000 people.
